Is it true that car hire co’s will only accept credit cards in payment for hire?
We have been told this by a bank cashier. We do not with to own a credit card, but do like to hire a car on holiday.

True. Car rental companies only accept credit cards. Logically a company will not give you a very expensive item to borrow without you leaving collaterial. That is what your charge card is

Sassy2 is correct. They will require a valid credit card and a photo ID. In the States, they need to make a copy of your Driver’s License.
